Interpersonal Communication in Pre-AP World Languages and Culture

In this workshop for middle and high school teachers, you will gain concrete strategies for developing the skills and knowledge students need at the Pre-AP® level in a target language. You will examine the AP® Achievement Level Descriptions and World Language Performance Levels from the Curriculum Alignment Guide and the Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century.

Learning outcomes

After attending this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Implement strategies to improve students’ Interpersonal Communication, including negotiating meaning through questioning; stating and supporting opinions using rejoinders; writing for formal and informal registers; and writing for online and electronic formats.
  • Develop culturally relevant instruction that broadens students’ understanding of the products, practices, and perspectives of the target culture.
  • Incorporate technology into world language instruction.
  • Incorporate the AP Achievement Level Descriptions, the World Language Performance Levels in the Curriculum Alignment Guide, and the Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century into classroom instruction.
