Enroll in AP Mentoring

Strengthen your teaching practice with personalized guidance. Get an AP mentor.

AP Mentoring is an online program open to all teachers of AP Computer Science Principles, AP English Literature and Composition, and AP U.S. History for the 2017-18 school year.

Overview

If you're an AP teacher looking to hone your teaching skills and strengthen your students' performance, sign up for AP Mentoring.

AP Mentoring provides online, teacher-to-teacher support for AP teachers of all experience levels. It connects AP teachers who want to enhance their teaching skills with expert AP teachers who have significant instructional experience and deep content knowledge.

How It Works

  • Mentees choose an available AP mentor in their subject and join one of that mentor's groups of up to four mentees.
  • Each group meets online monthly through video chat, completing 12 hour-long sessions over the course of the school year.
  • Mentees are active participants. They work with their mentors to set goals and to analyze and modify their own teaching practices, and they collaborate and share feedback with their fellow mentees.
  • In between sessions mentees complete a reflection assignment designed to help them apply what they're learning in the classroom.
  • The group uses an online platform to share documents and schedule sessions.

Benefits

"I have learned so much from [my mentor]. I'm already implementing many of the items we spoke about such as applying historical thinking skills, SQ3R notes, essay writing, focusing on themes and connections, pacing the content and the list goes on."
AP U.S. History teacher

AP Mentoring gives you access to:

  • Teacher-to-teacher support no matter where you live and work. The online setting makes the program especially useful for those who can't make it to on-site professional development.
  • Meaningful collaboration with other educators who teach the same AP subject.
  • Personalized feedback that can be applied in the classroom right away.
  • A proven approach to professional development. Research shows that peer mentoring is highly effective in supporting teachers' practice.
  • 2.2 continuing education units (CEUs) for full participation (at least 11 out of 12 sessions plus completion of reflection assignments).

The program can help you:

  • Improve student performance in class and on AP Exams.
  • Enhance your teaching skills.
  • Teach better to AP requirements.
  • Supplement skills you learned at an AP Summer Institute or an AP one-day workshop.
