Teacher
AP Statistics
George Washington High School
Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Chris Olsen has been teaching mathematics and statistics at George Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for over 25 years.

Professional experience: After teaching in a junior high school for four years, Chris moved to his present position. Chris has taught AP Calculus and dabbled in computer science, but his enduring interest has been statistics, which he has taught since 1976 and AP Statistics since its inception. He served on the AP Statistics Development Committee and is the author of the new AP Statistics Teacher's Guide. He is a co-author of Introduction to Statistics and Data Analysis with Roxy Peck and Jay Devore.

Education: Chris has a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Iowa State University. An inveterate taker of courses, he stumbled into a master's degree in mathematics education and a Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Iowa.

Personal: Over the years Chris has developed a wide variety of interests, but spends most of his reading time in the areas of history, philosophy, math, and statistics. He has spent much seat time at the National Archives researching espionage in the Civil War, much foot time tramping around the mountains of Colorado, and not nearly enough time working in the yard. He has a long suffering wife, a nearly perfect daughter, and the most condescending cat since the time of the Pharaohs.
