One-Day AP Workshop—English Language and Composition
November 3, 2007
11 a.m.–6:15 p.m. Eastern Time

The deadline for registration is October 26 at 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

About the Event
Join us for this one-day interactive online workshop, designed to help new and experienced teachers develop and deliver a successful course in AP English Language and Composition. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the philosophy of the AP Program, the AP English Language and Composition course and exam, and practical classroom strategies. Participants will receive sample syllabi, consider appropriate textbooks and other resources, review the exam, and practice suggested student-centered classroom activities.

About the Presenter
Renee Shea has been an AP Reader and consultant to the AP Program for more than 30 years. She is currently the English language content adviser to AP Central® and was the editor of the last two sets of workshop materials for AP English Language and Composition (on the topics of rhetoric for the 2004-05 school year and writing persuasively for 2005-06). Shea co-authored Teaching Nonfiction in AP English: A Guide to Accompany 50 Essays with Larry Scanlon and Amy Tan in the Classroom: The Art of Invisible Strength with Deborah Wilchek. She is a professor of English and modern languages at Bowie State University.

Event Details

  • The fee for this event, including materials, is $150 per person for staff members at College Board member institutions* and $175 for staff members at nonmember institutions.
  • Technical and log-in directions will be sent via email before the event.
  • CEU credits will be awarded.
  • There will be breaks between the online sessions.
  • Materials for this event will be sent to the physical address provided during registration. No P.O. box numbers, please.
  • Space is limited! Register early to confirm your seat.

About the Presenter
Bill Pell is a veteran AP English Literature teacher, chair of the Spartanburg High School English Department, and a College Board consultant.
