Barbara Grosz

Barbara Grosz is a biology teacher with 37 years of experience in the classroom.

Professional experience: Barbara began teaching in 1964 at Herricks High School, in New Hyde Park, New York. In 1966 she moved to Florida and taught for eight years at a large Dade County public school, Miami Norland. The rest of her career has been spent at Pine Crest School, in Fort Lauderdale, where she has taught biology and AP Biology since 1974. In the fall of 2001, she will begin a student science-research course. Barbara has also been involved in test development for the SAT II in Biology and has written for The Biology Place (www.biology.com).

Barbara is committed to teacher education as well, and has offered numerous professional development workshops. She has been a consultant with the College Board® for 15 years, during which time she has also been an AP Biology Exam reader.

Education: Barbara has a bachelor's in biology from Adelphi University and a master's from Florida Atlantic University.

Personal: Barbara enjoys reading and travel, and puttering in the garden when time permits. Her husband, Robert, is a professor of pathophysiology and medical ethics at Nova Southeastern University. Her younger son Evan is also an educator, currently teaching English literature at the American International School of Genoa, Italy. Her older son, Justin, is an Assistant State Attorney for Broward County, Florida, and the father of her adored granddaughter, Jacy Madison.
