Dean Goodwin

Dean Goodwin is an experienced science educator. Since the late 1980s he has focused on environmental science.
Professional experience: Dean started his teaching career at The City University in London, England. In 1986 he moved to the United States, spending nine years as chair of science at two schools in Virginia. Dean designed a new science center, and developed a college level environmental science elective for high school students. Since 1995, Dean has been Director of Environmental Education at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, New Hampshire. He works closely with all academic disciplines to fully integrate environmental issues throughout the entire school curriculum. He runs summer institutes for teachers on the topic of curriculum design and problem-based learning, and has been acknowledged nationally for his work on numerous occasions. Dean is a Question Leader at the exam reading each year. Currently, Dean is working on a curriculum design project entitled "Adopt-A-Boat", in conjunction with the University of New Hampshire, MIT, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, and members of the New England fishing fleet operating in the Gulf of Maine.
Education: Dean holds a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Salford University, England, and a combined Ph.D./PGCE in Chemistry/Science Education from Leicester University, England.
Personal: After seven years of working in British academia, Dean moved to the United States. He became a U.S. citizen in 1996. He enjoys travel, reading, and music. Dean lives in Meriden, New Hampshire, next to the oldest bird sanctuary in America, with his wife Cindy, son, Taylor, and daughter, Julia.
