Rich del Rio teaches history at La Jolla High School in San Diego, California.

Professional experience: Rich has been a history teacher for twelve years and currently teaches AP European History and AP American History. After spending most of his career teaching at the middle school level, Rich returned to the high school level last year. He is a member of the NAEP Test Development Committee and the California Content Review Panel for History-Social Science. Last spring he was a Reader for the AP European History exams. At La Jolla High, Rich keeps busy by helping to sponsor the 'We the People' constitution team, academic league, and Model United Nations. In the past, he has served as an editor of the National History Standards (2nd ed.) and as a mentor teacher in San Diego City Schools. He has presented at numerous state and national conferences on diverse topics such as assessment, standards, and primary sources. Rich is currently training to be an AP workshop consultant.

Personal: Rich lives a half mile from San Diego's largest beach and he enjoys reading, traveling, and listening to the blues. As a native Bostonian, Rich marks his time with the annual passion play otherwise known as the Red Sox. His Calvinist ancestors are no doubt proud that he is a West Coast member of the Red Sox Nation, still standing.
