Lawrence Charap is the head of the History and Social Sciences Content Development Group, K-12 Professional Development, at the College Board.
Professional experience: Lawrence has taught various levels of history in college and high school settings. After teaching American and world history at the Bryn Mawr School for Girls in Baltimore, Maryland, Lawrence has led both halves of the U.S. survey at Loyola College of Maryland, Towson University, and Harford Community College. Lawrence has also written and edited a number of interactive learning resources and textbook chapters for iLrn, an online textbook publisher based in Medford, Massachusetts. This coming fall will see Lawrence continue to teach at the University of Rhode Island, in two courses on American culture in the nineteenth century. He has been working with the College Board on AP Central development since 2001.
Education: Lawrence received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 2001. A section of his dissertation on Jewish-Christian relations in the United States at the turn of the twentieth century has recently been published in the journal American Jewish History. He received his B.A. from the University of Chicago in 1993.
Personal: Lawrence's hobbies include bridge, urban archaeology, and an enthusiasm for trains and transit history.
