Orientation Workshops
Most students will turn to this APCD: European History section first. Orientation Workshops includes answers to frequently asked questions about the examination, study strategies, a detailed description of the exam and how it is graded, test-taking tips, and other information that provides an in-depth look at the exam.

Essay Tutorials
The Essay Tutorial section includes nine document-based questions and three free-response prompts from previous exams. For each, there are interactive tutorials that guide students through the process of writing a good essay -- from analyzing and reading critically to developing the main idea and organizing the essay. Thoughtful questions, advice, and additional information by experienced AP teachers is offered at every step along the way.

An Essay Tutorial taken in the guided mode supplies reflective questions and analysis at each step of the process, while the unguided mode gives the outline of the steps. After writing an essay, some topics are eligible for online evaluation by trained AP Readers. To help students evaluate their own work, there are detailed scoring guidelines and a sample of essays written by students who took the exam, complete with teacher comments.

Multiple-Choice Practice
The Multiple-Choice Practice section emphasizes analysis and understanding as students are taught to use their knowledge of historical events to check the validity of various statements. It includes three full-length multiple-choice tests that can be taken in instructional or test mode. In instructional mode, students can choose to answer questions that reflect different time periods and different aspects of history. In test mode, students take complete multiple-choice tests under timed conditions. Full reports give students a picture of their strengths and weaknesses, as well as how their performance compares with others who took the test.

Test Prep Planner
The Test Prep Planner section provides three realistic plans that students can use to plot their course of study. One plan uses the APCD as a supplement to coursework throughout the year; another is designed for students on block scheduling to use after their classes end; and finally, a planner designed for "late bloomers," those who do not begin their review until just before the exam.

A calendar enables students to plan their tasks for the time they have available and helps them keep track of what to review and when. The plans also suggest when and why to use the test mode versus the instructional mode of Multiple-Choice Practice and the best way to schedule the essay tutorials.
