Briefly define the nature of your concentration project.
It was my intent to embark on a personal exploration of a part of my community. I chose as a subject the Metro, our local subway system. I was also interested in developing design compositions within a horizontal format. Layered color and suggestions of motion was also important in my illustrations.

Briefly describe the development of your concentration project and the sources of your ideas. You may refer to specific slides as examples.
My interest in the complexity of the Metro developed from day-to-day travel. I was intrigued by the dramatic lights and limited range of colors present throughout the Metro system. I was also fascinated with the rapid movement of the train cars and the people traveling throughout the system. In the development of my concentration, I tried to use layering of paint to capture day-to-day scenes of the various Metro stations. The other challenge was to maintain the dramatic light sources in my paintings. This is most apparent in slides 4* and 11. As a means of capturing the movement of the train (slide 12) and the fast-paced movement of the pedestrians (slide 9), I used lines and blurred strokes in my paintings. The hardest part of completing my concentration was using a side range of values when there is a limited amount of color present in the Metro station.

What medium of media did you use?
I began my concentration using acrylic paint to explore the Metro system. As my series evolved, I started doing mixed media pieces. Slide 2 is acrylic over Metro Cards while slide 8 is acrylic over copies of the metro system map.
* Important Note:
The numbers of the slides run from top left to bottom right.
