Student Commentary
Briefly define the nature of your concentration project.
My concentration involves mainly portraits with a narrative quality and a humorous aspect incorporated. The work conveys a mood reflective of my introspective thoughts at the time. My work is a way to tell my experiences and emotions without being literal. It makes it seem like I've let go of a secret without exposing myself.

Briefly describe the development of your concentration project and the sources of your ideas. You may refer to specific slides as examples.
Some of my pieces come from personal events, and the descriptions of my feelings about these events have moved from a more literal expression to more symbolic. Other pieces which carry more of a narrative quality are pieces where I have tried to see [through] someone else's eyes but are still a reaction to my experiences in a more distant way. Some of the works have come from a reaction to poetry such as number 11 which was a reaction to William Blake's poem, "Ah, Sunflower." Also, the piece, number 4, occurred around a time when I was interested in John Currin.

What medium or media did you use?
Mainly I use acrylic paint because of the way it lends itself to painting with layers and how easy it is to layer the colors. I also enjoy varying the use of washes in some pieces and thicker, heavier paint on others.
