Student Commentary
Briefly define the nature of your concentration project.
My concentration focuses on the artists and their subject matter in the studio. My compositions are designed from a voyeur perspective with a focus on the human figure.
Briefly describe the development of your concentration project and the sources of your ideas. You may refer to specific slides as examples.
The idea behind my concentration was inspired by Degas' work revolving around the ballet. The way he caught the human figure in spur-of-the-moment poses amazed me, so I set out to do the same. As work on my concentration progressed, I began to try to raise questions about the relationship between the artists and their subjects by means of composition. As I progressed, my pieces also became more complex as I further developed my style of smooth, tonal surfaces.
What medium or media did you use?
Oil paint on paper and charcoal.
