Briefly define the nature of your concentration project.
My concentration, called Evolution of Adam and Eve, is based on the story from the Holy Bible. Each piece illustrates a part of the story, beginning from creation to Adam and Eve's punishment for disobeying God's order not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Adam and Eve then evolve into modern society and the sin evolves to humanity's attempt to play God by manipulating or even controlling nature's course, for example genetic engineering and cloning.
Briefly define the development of your concentration and the sources of your ideas. You may refer to specific pieces as examples.
My inspiration for the initial eight pieces comes from the book of Genesis and my strong Christian background. My admiration for works by artist Gustav Klimt has inspired me to apply techniques such as strong contrast of colors, repetitive patterns, and use of gold and silver paint within my concentration (e.g., slide #). I was also inspired by Klimt's use of strong lines to either separate or unite different entities within the artwork (e.g., slide # shows the union of Adam and Eve). The other half of the concentration marks the evolution in the theme from the biblical interpretation of the fall of man to my personal interpretation of society's downfall in its modern sin of genetic engineering and cloning. The last slide mirrors this theme with abstract images on men altering the sacred gene strand and fetuses punctured with needles.
What media did you use?
I used watercolors for most of the concentration, and for some of the pieces I used pastel and acrylic paint. I accentuated all of the artwork with either gold or silver paint or felt pen.
