What is the central idea of your concentration?
I have always been interested in the form and function of old-world armaments, so many of my designs incorporate those elements.
How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific slides as examples.
As I worked through my portfolio my designs became more 3-D and more complex. I used a variety of media, techniques, and styles to create objects that move with the wearer. My pieces use complex hinging and varying surface textures such as fire scale, satin finish, and high polish to create emphasis.
Rationale for Score:
This portfolio exhibits an unmistakable engagement and coherence between the concept of the concentration and the work presented. The work attracts the viewer with an effective integration of 3-D concepts. In images 1, 2, and 11, the student explores the potential of line to both activate a surface and to define the contour of the form. An evocative theme is carried throughout the portfolio. Through an innovative application of 3-D design concepts, this student has taken commonplace objects and created new and unique artistic forms. Overall, the work is of excellent quality, demonstrating original vision.
