Briefly define the nature of your concentration project.
I have always been interested in figures interacting with each other and their environments. In my work, I try to use the environments in which the figures are placed to characterize the scene and to provide feeling and meaning.

Briefly describe the development of your concentration project and the sources of your ideas. You may refer to specific slides as examples.
Figures and interiors have always been a central focus of my work. However, after studying works of several artists such as Caravaggio, Thomas Eakins, and Vermeer, I began adding multiple figures into the same canvas. I find that the interaction between two or more figures in a painting helps to define the moment and create meaning. For instance, I used the basic composition of Caravaggio's Seven Works of Mercy to compose my painting, Seven Mercy Sleepover (slide 5*), but used my ideas to change the painting into my own interpretation. The 10 figures in the painting interacted with at least one other figure to explain a different meaning. While my work used to include one figure in an environment, I felt that the paintings lacked in-depth content. Throughout the past year, I feel I have grown by incorporating several characters and involving content in my work.

What medium of media did you use?
Oil paint on canvas or board.
* Important Note:
The numbers of the slides run from top left to bottom right.
