Materials
- A ring tower
- A young child (optional)
Give a young child a ring tower (such as the Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Rock-a-Stack). Take off the rings. Have the child "put the tower back together." The child selects the largest ring to go on the bottom of the tower, then the next largest ring (never looking at the largest again), then the next largest, and so on until the tower is built. There it is: selection sort in action... by a 6-month-old! A wonderful presentation if you can bring your child to class that day.
