Summer Programs in Spain for AP Spanish Students
|
|
| | A Comprehensive Spanish Experience
The Spanish embassy is sponsoring courses for students from the U.S. and Canada. With classes, extracurricular activities, daytrips, and homestays, the three-week programs focus on preparation for the AP Spanish Language Exam and on immersion in Spanish language and culture.
The program is conducted by Eduespaña, a nonprofit organization founded in 1996 to foster the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language. In order to serve as a site for the program, a school in Spain must be reviewed by Eduespaña and have CEELE accreditation. CEELE stands for "Calidad en la Enseñanza del Español como Lengua Extranjera" -- "quality in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language." This accreditation is granted after review by the University of Alcalá de Henares' Department of Modern Languages.
The program will be offered twice in 2005 -- June 13 to July 1 and July 4 to 22 -- in the following cities: Barcelona, Cádiz, Granada, Marbella, Madrid, Málaga, Nerja Salamanca, San Sebastián, and Seville.
Teachers Can Come, Too Students can register individually or as a group accompanied by a teacher. Each student will receive a partial scholarship ($400) from the Embassy of Spain. Teachers and chaperones will receive free room and board. They may also participate in the students' extracurricular activities and daytrips as they choose. Chaperones can qualify for travel stipends.
The deadline for registration is March 30, 2005. For more information and to register online, go to Eduespaña's Web site: Eduespaña or write to infoap-spanish@eduespa.org.
