II. Geographical Analysis of Population

To read the narrative and see further sections under each listed heading, please see "More" below.

Geographical Analysis of Population

Density, Distribution, and Scale
It is important not to oversimplify explanations for the distribution of population. One cannot say, "this place is too hot, too cold, too wet, or too dry," because it seems that it is always possible to find a place to prove the counter point.

Consequences of Various Densities and Distributions
Not only do different levels of density impact the quality of human life and social organizations, patterns are also important.

Patterns of Composition: Age, Sex, Race, and Ethnicity
Analysis of the age-sex distribution within a given population reveals a demographic story -- past, present, and future -- about the place in question.

Population and Natural Hazards: Past, Present, and Future
The manner in which various agencies and organizations respond to natural hazards greatly affects the way those hazards are perceived.
