Visiting Hurston's Florida
| |
Eatonville celebrates its connection with its famed daughter through the annual arts and humanities events at the Zora Neale Hurston Festival each January. Come south for the winter months and trade Disney for an opportunity to participate in this festival that celebrates Hurston and other African American artists. Visit the Zora Neale Hurston National Museum of Fine Arts that showcases the works of talented African American artists and highlights the events of the 15 Zora Neale Hurston Festivals. To discover more of Hurston's Florida, travel south on the Florida Turnpike for about two hours, from Orlando to Ft. Pierce, where she died in 1960. In Ft. Pierce, visit the Zora Neale Hurston Library Branch, the Dust Tracks Heritage Trail, the Lincoln Park Academy where she taught English, as well as her last residence and her gravesite.
