Peanut Software Homepage
Rick Parris from Phillips Exeter Academy maintains this site, which has freeware programs, many of which are useful for calculus. Some of these programs have been reviewed at AP Central. In particular, WinPlot will graph rectangular, polar, parametric, and implicitly defined relations. Functions of two variables in several formats may be graphed in 3D. Probably the best feature is the graphing of solids of revolution and solids with regular cross sections.

AP Calculus AB/BC on the TI-89 and TI-92
The TI-89 program available from Nils Hahnfeld is an excellent collection of subprograms and menus that will help the user solve almost every imaginable AP Calculus problem and recall useful theorems, definitions, and rules. The program automates many of the TI-89 built-in functions with entry screens, dialog boxes, and hints and adds many others (for example, slope fields, velocity problems, and tests for convergence). Instructors will enjoy using this program for in-class demonstrations, and students will want to use this for homework help and even while taking the AP Exam.

WatchMe Ware
Chuck Sterner maintains this site that sells Windows-based software. The tutorials for the TI-83 and TI-89 calculators will help students learn all the functions of these graphing calculators.

Score5 eReview™ Calculus AB-BC
Cedo Publishers are the vendors that sell this AP test-prep software, which has been reviewed at AP Central.

Wolfram Research -- Introducing Mathematica5
These are the people who bring us Mathematica, one of the most popular CAS software programs. While you're on the site, also check out Calculus WIZ, an interactive computer algebra system, calculus tutorial (or text), and problem solver. The software is available in a stand-alone version (which does not require Mathematica) and as a Mathematica add-on.

MathXpert.com
This technology vendor sells educational mathematics software, including MathXpert Plus Calculus Assistant. The primary purpose of this software is to teach problem solving: it includes over 2,000 typical calculus problems to solve. Users may edit, or vary, the built-in problems or enter their own.

MathType
MathType 5.1 is an equation editor that lets you type and paste any type of mathematical symbol, expression, or equation into your document. This software makes adding professional-looking mathematical text to your documents a snap.

Graph Paper Printer
This shareware program allows you to print graph paper of any kind imaginable. The program produces grids (but not graphs). The grids may be sized to fit into your document; you define sizes, line thicknesses, and colors. Options are available through drop-down lists. You can add on your paper's titles or captions in any size, font, or rotation. The final grid is copied and pasted into your document or printed directly.

Derive™ Software
This is one of the most popular types of CAS software.

Calculus Toolkit 4.1
The program, available from Cedo Publishers, provides calculus software for the TI-82, TI-83, TI-83 Plus, TI-85, and TI-86 calculators. There are plans to have a version for the TI-89.

Venture Publishing
The graphing program available at this site, BestGrapher, is for both Windows and Macintosh computers. It comes on a single 3½-inch disk that installs easily. It contains all of the common features you would expect or desire in a grapher, including zooming and tracing. In addition, it has a symbolic differentiation capability and will calculate the derivative of a function and draw its graph quickly. The integration feature allows the use of Riemann sums, Trapezoid Rule, or Simpson's Rule in computing the definite integral. One of the best features is the program's ability to simulate approximating volumes of solids of revolution by rotating a piece of a curve about an axis. It will draw vertical shells or horizontal disks, depending on which method is chosen, and give the resulting computation. BestGrapher has both a parametric and polar mode.

Pedagoguery Software
Pedagoguery Software's GrafEq software is a graphing utility that graphs equations of functions and relations of all types from simple inequalities to complicated relations with singularities. The program graphs in rectangular form, parametric form, and polar form.

Calculus in Motion
Calculus in Motion is a collection of dynamic animations designed specifically for AP Calculus classes using Geometer's Sketchpad. The author is an AP Calculus teacher; the color, visualization, and the motion will get your students' attention. Calculus is all about movement and change -- as these animations move and change, they will deepen your students' understanding.
