V. Calculus Projects and Labs
|
|
| | Explorations by Texas Instruments
This Texas Instruments site provides free (for a limited time) Calculus Explorations classroom materials from the book by Barton and Diehl. There are five calculus explorations available: Applications of Definite Integral, Applications of Derivatives, Differential Equations, Integrals, and Limits and Continuity. The Limits and Continuity activity is a multivariable calculus project (by Doug Child) -- not for AP Calculus. The site requires a free registration before accessing the content.

PWS OnLine Series
This site is part of the PWS OnLine Series. The modules include examples, problems, projects, and case studies. There are also computer algebra system files, or extended worksheets, and movies.

Gavin's Calculus Projects
This is a large archive of calculus projects involving real-world problems. The author retains copyright to the materials but has posted them "hoping they will prove useful." I'm not sure what that means (don't sell any of the material?), but there are some engaging problems here that might be used for class assignments.

Barry Spieler's Calculus Projects
This site contains four writing assignments in calculus. These are in the form of letters asking for help in solving a specific problem. The assignment is to write a return letter giving the solution to the problem.

Calculating the Volume of a Vase
This site has an interactive Web-based project in which students use calculus and technology to determine the volume of a vase. A picture of a vase is set up on coordinate axes, and students are given instructions to move the cursor along its surface and to record the coordinates of each of the points.
