The AP Art History Development Committee is responsible for creating the AP Art History Course Description and the exam. This is no easy task--the exam must meet the benchmarks and reflect similar assessment methods and recent pedagogical practices at the college level. The committee members are a group of four college professors (each with different areas of expertise) and four high school teachers (drawn from schools both public and private and from a wide range of geographical locations). This group meets twice a year and the meetings are also attended by the Chief Reader, the college professor who is charge of the annual Reading of the free-response section of the exam. In addition, AP Exam experts from Educational Testing Service (ETS) work with the committee. Most committee members serve for four-year terms. Before any question is included in an exam, the entire committee must review it, including content experts from ETS and the Chief Reader.
