On the AP Biology Exam, 80 minutes are allowed for the 100 multiple-choice questions, 10 minutes for a reading period, and 90 minutes for the writing of the four essay questions. There is a short "wiggle" break in between the two parts, and coupled with preliminary work of filling out the answers sheet and a survey about class and laboratory time at the student's school, 3.5 hours is a reasonable estimate for the exam's duration. -- Carolyn Schofield
