AP FAQs

How much teacher preparation time is needed for an AP Biology class?
Any AP lab science course is time-intensive, and the teaching level of AP Biology is significantly more advanced than an Honors Biology I course. It will require greater research preparation time to be comfortable with topics and greater time allotment to accomplish the lab work and grading of challenging exams that include essay questions. Occasionally, a school will grant an AP science teacher a preparation period, but it is more common for AP teachers to set aside time before and after school or on weekends to prepare. Most veterans will say it is a tremendous amount of work, but most also say it is well worth the price! -- Carolyn Schofield
