How are the exams scored?
The multiple-choice section of the exam is scored by optical scanner. The free-response section is scored by over 600 high school and college mathematicians, gathering for seven days in June at the Kentucky International Convention Center. These consultants (known as "Readers") represent a diverse set of schools and colleges, come from all over the world, and have an enthusiastic interest in teaching and learning mathematics. A detailed description of the scoring procedures for the free-response section can found in Exam Scoring. -- Michael Boardman and Lin McMullin
