How are the AP Calculus Exams structured?
Both the Calculus AB and BC Exams have two sections and are arranged as follows:

Section I Part A: 28 multiple-choice questions, 55 minutes, no calculators allowed.
Section I Part B: 17 multiple-choice questions, 50 minutes, graphing calculator is required for some questions.
Section II Part A: 3 free-response questions, 45 minutes, for some problems (or parts of problems) a graphing calculator is required.
Section II Part B: 3 free-response questions, 45 minutes, no calculators allowed. During this time students may work on problems from Section II Part A without using their graphing calculator.

In determining the grade for each examination, the scores for Section I and Section II are given equal weight. Since the examinations are designed for full coverage of the subject matter, it is not expected that all students will answer all of the questions. -- Michael Boardman and Lin McMullin
