AP FAQs

How important is the lab component in the AP Biology course?
The lab component is a fundamental part of the AP Biology course. Most colleges include a significant lab component in their introductory biology course, which can contribute one-quarter to one-third of the final course credit. The AP Biology course includes 12 suggested lab exercises, outlined in the AP Biology Lab Manual for Students and designed to help AP students get that same lab experience. The accompanying AP Biology Lab Manual for Teachers includes follow-up exercises, sample data, and answers to all the questions in the students' version. Because the understanding of science as a process and the procurement of lab skills are so important, some of the multiple-choice and at least one of the mandatory essay questions on the AP Biology Exam will investigate the students' knowledge of the topics and objectives associated with these 12 labs. -- AP Program
